Life Project

This ACGC is closely aligned with the Integrative Project in Secondary 5. Students who complete an Integrative Project will have fully explored this ACGC. The Quebec Financial Education Program has numerous links to this ACGC.

In order to meet the objectives of this ACGC item students must:

Anticipate the process involved in producing a draft of one or more future projects (personal, career or community)

The Learning Strategy for this ACGC is ANTICIPATE. This means that the lesson must explicitly teach students how to anticipate the future.

ANTICIPATE:

Try to predict or to envision knowledge, procedures, actions or situations that might come up or that would be useful in tasks or situations; to foresee the resources required (Bégin 2008)

Examples:

identify prior learning that may be useful; consider requirements or needs in terms of future possibilities; imagine possible future situations or events; plan; hypothesize.

Note:

This ACGC does not require students to complete the project that they anticipate. This content only requires student to create a draft of the project.

Students will:

Choose one or more projects (either a personal project, a career project or a community project) that is/are a product of the student's own interests, aptitudes, values and aspirations
Clearly define what to expect as a result, or product, when the project is completed
Outline the steps that must be taken in order to complete the project
Make a list of the resources (material, financial, personal and academic) that will be necessary in order to complete the project
Create a timeline that will lead to the completion of the project
Identify some learning goals that will need to be achieved in order to complete the project
Identify some personal goals that the student might set for themselves that will make it possible to complete the project
Identify the support (social, emotional, academic and financial) that the student will require in order to complete the project
Develop an awareness of the connections between what they have learned about themselves and process of planning a project
Suggest any alternative timelines, steps and goals that might make it possible to complete the project in a different way
Reflect on how their prior knowledge influenced the planning of their project
Reflect on the resources that they already have available to them and those that they would like to connect with in the future
Reflect on how their personal Sense of Self-Efficacy will influence their ability to complete the project they have chosen

Teaching Ideas:

The role of the teacher in this project is critical if the student is to draft an authentic life project. Teachers should provide multiple examples of projects that students might carry out. Teachers need to get to know students well in order to help them think creatively about projects that might suit them.

Schools may want to take advantage of the Financial Education course or the Integrative Project to provide students with a time to complete this ACGC.
