In order to meet the objectives of this ACGC item students must:
Compare the work methods and duties of a student with those observed in the world of work.
The Learning Strategy for this ACGC is COMPARE. This means that the lesson must explicitly teach students how to compare information.

Look for elements or characteristics that establish connections or relationships between items of information. (BĂ©gin 2008)COMPARE:

- Understand the duties and work methods associated with their role at school

- Compare the work methods used at school and in the workplace,
- Compare the duties associated with being a student and those associated with being in the world of work
Teaching ideas:

- Create a list of student duties (or responsibilities) for Grade 6 students
- Create a list of student work methods (and Essential Skills (optional) ) that Grade 6 students have learned
- You may want to explore the activities in Introducing Learners to Essential Skills and Work Habits (see button for link)
- Use MyBlueprint - All About Me, CareerTreK BC or ALIS- Easy Reading Job Profiles websites to research the skill needed in a variety of careers - each student could choose a different career
- Teach students how to identify similarities and differences in order to compare
- Create a chart of Duties and Work Methods (Essential skills) for students
- Have students create similar charts for their selected occupation
- Have students compare the world of school with their selected occupation by comparing the duties and work methods in each setting
- Students can demonstrate their ability to compare by producing a table or chart, a Venn Diagram, an art project or an oral presentation showing the results of their work
- Students can upload their production to their student All About Me portfolio in MyBlueprint.
